AF tracking sensitivity when shooting is adjustable in five steps for subjects that move outside the focus area. Autofocus areas and points remain the same or change when switching between horizontal and vertical orientation depending on the shooting situation. AF area registration allows frequently used focus point settings to be stored in memory and assigned to user buttons for quick and convenient one-touch recall whenever needed.
Thanks to a new shutter charging unit and improvements to the image processing system, the α7 III can shoot continuously at up to 10 frames per second with AF/AE tracking (up to 8 frames per second with minimal display lag in live view burst mode) for easy and stable shooting even intensively active subjects. Up to approximately 177 full-resolution JPEG images (standard), 89 compressed RAW images, or 40 uncompressed RAW images can be captured in one continuous burst. The electronic shutter allows silent photography of wildlife and other sensitive situations without vibrations, where even the slightest noise can mean the loss of the ideal shot.

Flicker from fluorescent and other artificial lighting is automatically detected and shutter action is timed to minimize the effect of flicker on still images. This suppresses exposure and color anomalies at the top and bottom of images taken at high shutter speeds, as well as exposure and color inconsistencies between consecutive images, so you can shoot indoors with greater confidence.
Full-frame 4K high-definition video24 with full pixel subtraction without pixel binning, which compresses approximately 2.4 times the amount of data required for 4K video (QFHD: 3840 x 2160), results in minimal moiré and jagged lines. Advanced image processing allows you to record full-frame 4K video sequences with excellent image quality in the medium to high ISO range, so you can use the unique potential of the 4K format in every shot. Instead of full-frame mode, Super 35 mm can also be selected as needed.

The α7 III provides a wide range of features to facilitate professional cinematographers' workflows, including clean HDMI output, time code / user bits (TC/UB), rec. control, display/set markers, zebra, slow motion and fast motion, simultaneous proxy movie recording, extracting and saving a frame from a movie separately, and Gamma Display Assist, among others.
The effective combination of focal-plane phase-detection AF and contrast-detection AF accurately captures even fast-moving subjects and tracks them smoothly during video recording. AF coverage for movies extends over an area almost as wide as AF coverage for stills, so once the high-density AF system focuses on a movie subject, the camera continues to track it steadily and tenaciously. Three AF speed settings give you the freedom to use slow focus effects when shooting movie scenes.
This comprehensive system compensates for five types of camera shake that tend to blur images: tilt/distortion when shooting at longer focal lengths; X/Y jitter when shooting close-ups (including macro); and shaking when taking pictures at night and movies. It effectively achieves a shutter speed of 5.0EV, so the α7 III can take full advantage of its high-quality imaging capabilities and Live View imaging performance. In addition, it works with A-mount lenses attached via a mount adapter, as well as E-mount lenses.

For longer periods of reliable shooting, the NP-FZ100 battery has approximately 2.2 times the capacity of the NP-FW50 battery, allowing up to approximately 710 photos per full charge, and the optional VG-C3EM vertical grip can hold two batteries. USB Type-C™ and Multi/Micro USB ports allow external mobile batteries to power the camera for longer recordings. Even more conveniently, accessories such as a remote control unit can be used via the Multi/Micro USB port, while power is supplied via the USB Type-C™ port. The optional BC-QZ1 battery charger enables faster charging than USB charging.
The camera can be paired with the PlayMemories Mobile app installed on a compatible mobile phone or tablet to obtain location data, record it on still images, and correct the camera's date/time and location settings. PlayMemories Home can be used on a PC to arrange imported still images on a map.
the touchless remote control can turn your smartphone or tablet into a viewfinder/remote control. One touch sharing will transfer photos/videos to your device for SNS sharing. Just install the PlayMemories Mobile app over Wi-Fi on your NFC-enabled Android device, then bring the device to the camera and connect. If you don't have NFC, use QR code compatibility to pair your device.
The 3.0-type LCD screen with 922,000 dots offers touch screen control and a clear, clear and finely detailed display even outdoors. Use Touch Focus to instantly focus on a point you touch on the screen, and Touch Pad to drag the focus frame with your fingertip on the LCD while viewing the image in the viewfinder. This LCD tilts up to 107° and down up to 41° for flexible and comfortable camera holding and viewing.
With approximately 2359,000 pixels, this XGA OLED Tru-Finder, which provides high resolution and contrast, plus excellent gradation and color reproduction, which are the advantages of an OLED viewfinder, faithfully displays the image with clear visibility from corner to corner. Magnification is 0.78x (approx. 38.5° diagonal FOV). The ZEISS T* surface treatment significantly reduces disturbing lens reflections on the eyepiece. When the camera is turned on, startup is approximately 40% faster than the α7 II. In addition, the display mode can be set to "High" to provide finer and more natural details, making the most of the data read from the 24.2 effective megapixel sensor.
The α7 III works reliably in demanding environments. Its body is reinforced with a lightweight, high-strength magnesium alloy top cover, front cover and inner frame. The number of screws for attaching the lens has been increased to six for greater durability. The main buttons and dials are sealed. Sealing is provided throughout the body to minimize the ingress of dust and moisture.
