The EOS 1500D is outwardly identical to the previous generation. It's the same size and weight as its predecessor, and it's exactly the same when it comes to button placement. One-handed shooting is available on the camera, but it still offers a good grip thanks to ample rubber on the right side of the camera. The plastic finish doesn't feel too premium, and that's to be expected from a basic DSLR.

The EOS 1500D is ergonomically quite comfortable to hold with one hand – all the controls are on the right, so you can reach practically everything. If you've worked with Canon digital SLRs before, you'll feel right at home with this model. If you are switching from another brand, the controls will take some time to get used to.

When the Wi-Fi connection is active, the dedicated LED at the bottom will light up. The top-mounted mode selector has a robust feel. The grippy material makes it easy to switch even with dirty fingers. There is also a reassuring click from the switch. A vertical command dial located directly in front of the shutter button lets you change ISO, exposure, and other settings. Overall, the EOS 1500D feels quite similar to the EOS 1300D, which isn't always negative. It's small, light, and easy to use, with just the right number of buttons to make it less intimidating for newbies.

BEFORE

AFTER

The Canon EOS 1500D is an unassuming camera, but that doesn't mean it's featureless. A key selling point is the 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor with an optical low-pass filter, an advance over the 18MP sensor of the Canon EOS 1300D and EOS 3000D. Comparable to those found in DSLRs designed for advanced users, this sensor helps collect more light with minimal effort. This sensor can also be placed on the EOS 77D, a camera aimed at professionals. In addition, the DIGIC 4+ processor, which has been around since 2014 and was built primarily for point-and-shoot photography, has remained mostly intact.

The EOS 1500D has NFC and Wi-Fi to connect to your smartphone like the 1300D. The whole process is automated using NFC, so setting it up with your Android phone is extremely simple. You will need to manually enter the camera's Wi-Fi password on the iPhone. Once installed, the Canon Camera Connect app lets you view photos stored on your camera's SD card and even use your phone's display as a viewfinder for remote shooting.

indoor Studio Photography Test of Canon 1500d

The Canon EOS 1500D comes with the EF S18-55 IS II lens. We've found that, at least initially, most consumers who buy these entry-level DSLRs are happy with the lens that comes with them. As a result, we tested the camera using a standard lens. For beginners or amateur photographers, the lens provides excellent results.

BEFORE

AFTER

Compared to the earlier EOS 1300D and the newer EOS 3000D, the EOS 1500D has a better sensor. As a result, the overall image quality has improved dramatically. During testing, we noted that the images were sharp enough and had excellent color quality.

We also found that color saturation was good during our tests and that warmer colors had little pop. This is often the case when it comes to basic DSLR cameras. We have to commend this camera as we got excellent images during our daytime tests even when the sky was overcast during the monsoons. The dynamic range that remained was, on the other hand, excellent. The color of the sky in the foreground was well-balanced.

Landscape photos benefit from the increased resolution of the EOS 1500D, which allows for additional cropping if needed. Although the level of detail is impressive, getting a sharp image can be difficult. Even with lots of beautiful light and steady hands, we occasionally ended up with soft landscape shots, even at the "P" setting. There is also some chromatic aberration, although it is not very obvious. Objects in the center of the frame are relatively sharp, while those on the sides are slightly out of focus. As you'd expect from an entry-level DSLR, focus speed is adequate. The lens kit has a good depth of field for close-up shots, which is nice.

Burst shooting is available at up to approximately 3 frames per second (fps). Fast and easy AF is achieved with 9 AF points (cross AF with center AF point). The camera comes with a wealth of shooting features that can be accessed with just a twist of the mode dial.
