Compact and capable, the Nikon Z5 is an FX-format mirrorless camera with a well-rounded feature set to suit both photography and video needs. Its 24.3MP CMOS sensor and EXPEED 6 processor enable wide sensitivity up to ISO 51200, fast shooting at 4.5 fps and UHD 4K video at 30 fps.

The imaging capabilities are further reflected in the refined autofocus system with 273 selectable points and it is a hybrid focusing system that uses both phase detection and contrast detection methods for fast and accurate focusing with deft subject tracking. Face detection can be used in both photo and video mode, while more accurate eye detection benefits portrait photographers working with people or animals.

Complementing the sensor and processor is a sleek yet versatile physical design that includes a magnesium alloy chassis with a weather-sealed construction to suit working in harsh weather. A high-resolution 3.6m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder allows high-definition eye-level viewing, while the rear 3.2" flip-out 1.04m-dot LCD touch screen allows working from both high and low angles. Plus, for easy sharing There's built-in Wi-Fi -Fi and Bluetooth work in conjunction with the Nikon SnapBridge app for wireless photo and video transfer and remote camera control from your mobile device.

24.3MP FX-format CMOS sensor and EXPEED 6 image processor

The 24.3MP full-frame FX-format CMOS sensor is paired with the EXPEED 6 image processor to deliver a versatile blend of high sensitivity, fine image quality and fast overall performance. The native sensitivity range from ISO 100-51200 enables work in a wide range of lighting conditions and can be further extended up to ISO 102400 for extremely low light. The combination of resolution and sensor size also contributes to clear image quality and smooth color transitions with reduced noise throughout the sensitivity range. In addition to the image quality advantage, the EXPEED 6 processor also provides useful speed throughout the camera system, including a top-notch full-resolution burst speed of 4.5 fps, as well as the ability to capture 8MP video.

In addition to imaging, the sensor design also includes a 273-point hybrid autofocus system that uses both phase-detection and contrast-detection methods for fast and accurate focusing for both photo and video applications. This focus system supports Eye Detection AF, which uses face detection to help focus on the eyes of subjects, along with face detection for both stills and video, and for both humans and animals.

UHD 4K video recording

Capable of recording more than just stills, the Z 5 supports UHD 4K video recording at up to 30 frames per second and Full HD recording at up to 60 frames per second, with the ability to save movie files to in-camera memory cards or an optional external recorder via HDMI output. UHD 4K recording uses 1.7x cropping of the center of the frame, while Full HD recording uses the entire entire frame. In addition, in-camera time-lapse shooting is also possible, with the ability to create a finished UHD 4K video file directly from the camera.

Reduction of vibrations when moving the sensor

Built into the body is a 5-axis Vibration Reduction (VR) mechanism with sensor-shift that compensates for up to five stops of stabilization regardless of the lens used. This system also works with adapted lenses, when using the optional FTZ Adapter, where 3-axis stabilization is used. In addition, there is electronic VR that uses video recording to help ensure steady footage suitable for handheld photography.

A large 3.2" 1.04m dot LCD display is available for clear, clear and vivid image playback and live view photography. The display has a tilting design to accommodate working from high and low angles, and it is also a touch screen for more intuitive control, navigation and settings control.

An electronic viewfinder with 3.69m dots is available for comfortable viewing at eye level.

Two SD memory card slots support up to UHS-II protocol for high-speed and efficient storage of photo and video files.

The robust magnesium alloy chassis is dust and weather-resistant, allowing it to work in harsh climates and adverse conditions.

Built-in SnapBridge connectivity enables seamless transfer of low-resolution images as well as remote shooting capabilities. BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and Wi-Fi enable communication between the camera and a smart device, plus a mobile device can remotely trigger the shutter and display a live view from the camera for remote work.

The included EN-EL15c rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides approximately 470 shots per charge, and in-camera charging is supported via USB even when the camera is in use. Additionally, it is also compatible with the optional MB-N10 multi-battery pack for longer shooting times.

Other camera functions

Creative Picture Settings: Dream, Morning, Pop, Sunday, Gloomy, Dramatic, Silent, Bleached, Melancholy, Clean, Denim, Toy, Sepia, Blue, Red, Pink, Charcoal, Graphite, Binary and Carbon.

Multiple exposure mode allows multiple exposures to be combined into one image for creative effects.

Focus Shift mode automatically captures a series of up to 300 sequential images, shifting the focus position in each image. These images can then be composited into a single image with an extended depth of field, ideal for photographing smaller close-up subjects, landscapes and other static subjects.
